Terry Tufts in Concert

Take Note! Music House, address given upon reservation, Barrie, ON

We at the Take Note! Music House had such fun at our inaugural Barrie house concert, that when we heard our dear friend Terry Tufts was coming through town in July, we immediately asked him to visit' aaaand sing for his supper! The Montreal Gazette called Terry a "triple-threat": one of Canada's best finger-style guitarists, a fantastic songwriter, and he has himself some sweet-sounding pipes! (as far as we know, he doesn't dance or do broadway musicals' different triple-threat')

The concert will take place on Saturday, July 19 (sorry, cottagers!) at 8:00 pm (doors open at 7:30). Suggested donation is $15, with all proceeds going directly to the performer. You may reserve your seat by calling (705) 305-1687 or emailing concerts@takenotepromotion.com. Directions will be given upon reservation, but we're located close to downtown Barrie on the north side of the bay, just a little north-east of City Hall. We're still trying to build up our Barrie mailing list, so please do forward this to any music-lovers you know, and encourage them to sign up for our mailing list themselves on our webpage.

Accessibility-wise, we do need to to a bit of work on this house ' there are a few steps up to the front door (but feel free to walk up the grass if it's easier), or two less-steep steps if you come around to the back. Once you're in the house, everything will be taking place on the main level, no steps involved. There is a main floor washroom, although it's not wheelchair-friendly. No pets at the moment, although the previous owners had dogs. A reminder, as always, to please refrain from wearing scents, as some of our "regulars" do have sensitivities.

Terry Tufts is a finger-style guitarist living off-grid with his wife and daughter in the bush in North Frontenac, Ontario.

"sings with a soaring voice of unparalleled sincerity" [Ed McCurdy, author of Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream]

Terry has been playing music for enjoyment since 1963 and as a profession since 1974. His father's job with the Canadian government moved the family to Denver, Colorado in the U.S. in the 1960's, at a time when the folk and rock music genres were influencing opinion everywhere. Other postings that influenced him musically took him to Ottawa and Rome. Upon returning to Canada to complete high school, he irremovably stuck his head into the sound hole of an acoustic guitar. He suffers from the affliction to this day, coupled with frequent electric outbursts that last long into the night'

"'one of Canada's foremost instrumentalists" [Stephen Flood, Ottawa X-Press]

In 1974 he moved to Fredericton, NB, to begin pursuing his own musical career as a singer-songwriter and guitarist, as well as working as a session musician and sideman for a variety of artists including Tom Paxton, Kathryn Briggs, David Francey, Colleen Peterson, Laura Smith, Laura Bird, Ian Tamblyn, Bill Garrett & Sue Lothrop, Charlie Sohmer, The Arrogant Worms, Wayne Rostad, Susan Aglukark, Tracey Brown, and George Fox. He has seven solo albums to his credit, one unreleased.

"a musician's musician, a virtuoso finger-style guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and a fine songwriter" [Ontario Council of Folk Festivals]

Terry Tufts blends a well-travelled personal history into music without boundaries.
