Scott Cook

Take Note! Music House, address given upon reservation, Orillia, ON

We're terribly excited to announce a house concert by one of our favourite singer-songwriters, Scott Cook. We met Scott a couple of years ago at a folk music conference, and were immediately impressed -- we're sure you will be too!

Edmonton-based, world-travelling prairie balladeer Scott Cook will be performing at the Take Note! Music House on Sunday, April 13 at 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:30). Tickets are $15, and you may call (705) 305-1687 or email concerts@takenotepromotion.com to reserve your seat. Directions will be given upon reservation, but we're located close to downtown Orillia, just west of the Opera House and north of the hospital.

Accessibility-wise, there is one step in throughout the side door, or a ridge through the back sliding door, and there is a main-floor washroom, although not big enough to accommodate a wheelchair. Allergy-wise, we're pet-less, although do occasionally have some dogs coming for a visit, and we're tree-hugging organic types who are notoriously lousy housekeepers, so those with chemical sensitivities need to worry about our use of harsh cleaning agents. :) (A reminder, as always, to please refrain from wearing scents, as it will be close quarters and some of our "regulars" do have sensitivities.)

If you haven't already had the pleasure of hearing Scott Cook live, he has several videos up at www.scottcook.net/videos.php which we're sure will convince you!

On a bittersweet note, this will be the last concert we're presenting in this particular house. We've unexpectedly bought a new home in Barrie -- with an even BETTER room for house concerts, so we do hope you'll continue to join us for concerts in the 'southland'. We're hoping to present our first concert at the new location in June, with east-coast singer-songwriter Ian Foster.

Edmonton, Alberta's prairie balladeer Scott Cook is a tirelessly traveling DIY songwriter with heart forever on sleeve. Road-worn, painfully honest, and deeply human, his straight-talking tunes weave together folk, roots, blues, soul and country with spacious fingerpicked arrangements on fingerstyle guitar and clawhammer banjo. "Scott Cook has distilled his travels down into songs powered by a sharp eye for imagery, a healthy dose of humanity, and that unforgettable voice, that at the same time intones the rigours of the road and the most comfortable couch you have ever slept on." - David Francey, 3X Juno winner

Cook has been making a full-time living at music since 2007, touring extensively across Canada, the US, Europe, Asia and Australia, and is currently on tour in support of his fourth release, "One More Time Around". Its opening track "Pass It Along" won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest, with UK magazine Maverick Country naming him "one of Canada's most inspiring and imaginative storytellers". "As hard-working a DIY songwriter as any in the game... A Scott Cook song contains the extra work done by a carpenter who cares. Work the carpenter doesn't have to do. Work only other carpenters will likely even notice... One of the best songwriters this country has. A working artist who's taken enormous risks in order to make something which offers strength to anyone who takes the time to listen... I believe that over the years this album will prove to be a benchmark in Canadian folk music, as well as a signpost pointing the way for younger artists. I believe that young songwriters will write better songs because of it." - Corin Raymond, Raymond Unrushed
